I’m a would-be naturalist and distance runner who sometimes writes about these things. I nurture particular interests in ornithology, evolutionary biology, mountain running, and backcountry skiing. I’m currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Washington and Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle, but was raised in Vermont, colleged in Oregon, and have a bit of Colorado in my blood, too.
In addition to spending time in the hills and doing science, I’m also regular contributor at The Hypocrite Reader, an online literary magazine publishing poetry, prose, and creative nonfiction; and a contributor at The Molecular Ecologist, a news, reviews, and methods blog aimed at research biologists. I’ve also written for High Country News and Bearings Journal.
